Recessed LED pot lights are the single most popular lighting upgrade we install in Toronto homes, and for good reason: they brighten the narrow, often dark layouts of the city's semis, rowhouses and centre-hall plans without eating up space. Done right, a clean pot light layout transforms a Leslieville living room or an Annex kitchen.
Pot Lights in Toronto: local know-how
Toronto's older homes present specific challenges for pot lights. Many have plaster-and-lath ceilings rather than drywall, low-clearance basements, and the brick-and-balloon-framed construction common in pre-war semis and rowhouses, all of which affect where fixtures can go and how we run cable. In finished spaces we plan layouts to work around joist direction, HVAC ducts and existing wiring, and we use the right airtight, insulation-contact (IC-rated) housings — important in Toronto where ceilings often sit directly below an insulated attic or an upper unit. We design spacing for even, glare-free light, put fixtures on appropriately sized dimmable circuits, and add or extend circuits where the existing one can't take the load. New circuits and added wiring fall under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and require an ESA notification, which we coordinate as part of the job so your lighting upgrade is properly inspected.
